ST. HELENA ISLAND, SC (WTOC) -

Beaufort County sheriff's deputies responded just before 10 p.m. Thursday to a home on Saxonville Road on a report of a gunshot victim.

Deputies made contact with a 40-year-old man who was shot in the leg.

The man said he was shot outside a home on Shiney Road. He had been standing outside the home, visiting with several other people, when a male subject suddenly approached and began shooting at him, according to the BCSO. After several rounds were fired and the man was shot in the leg, the suspect was seen running away.

The victim then got into his car and called 911 as he drove to his home on Saxonville Road. He said he believed the shooting may have been related to an ongoing dispute he'd been having with an acquaintance over money, according to the BCSO.

He was transported to Beaufort Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released for non-life-threatening injury.

No suspect has yet been positively identified.
