Purse snatching leads to increased security at library

The Bull Street Library is boosting security after an employee was mugged in the parking lot.

Library officials are encouraging customers and staff to ask for an escort to their cars if they feel uncomfortable.

The employee had her purse snatched as she was getting into her car when leaving the library. Since there is a lot of coming and going, library officials are working with police to keep people from hanging around the building. They have posted no loitering signs, installed cameras facing the parking lot and have off duty officers working to keep people safe.

"We encourage our staff when they leave to leave together," said Director of Live Oak Public Libraries Christian Kruse. "We have an off duty officer who is working every vending until 8 p.m. to escort any staff who feel uncomfortable. For public, we also ask them to ask for our officers help if want to be walked to their car."

Police are still looking for the suspect in the purse snatching.

Kruse says the best thing you can do is be aware of your surroundings, especially in the downtown area.
