Arrest made in Wells Fargo Bank robbery

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Authorities have made an arrest in the March 20 robbery at the Wells Fargo Bank branch in the 3500 block of Ogeechee Road.

Marcus T. Newton, 26, was taken into custody early Friday morning. He has been charged with armed robbery and theft be receiving stolen auto.

At 5:30 a.m. Friday, warrants were served simultaneously at two of Newton's last know addresses, one in Midway and the other in the 800 block of Elliot Ave. in Savannah.

As one law enforcement group cleared the Midway residence, a second group entered the Savannah location where Newton was found.

The arrest results form a collaboration between Savannah-Chatham Metro Police Department's Robbery Unity, FBI, U.S. Marshals, SWAT, SCMPD's Forensics Unit, Savannah Area Regional Intelligence Center, Precinct One Detectives and Patrol, Midway Police and Liberty County Sheriff's Office.
