Gastonia warehouse destroyed after huge blaze

GASTONIA, NC (WBTV) -

Firefighters Saturday did battle with a large fire in Gastonia.

The alarm for fire came over around 8:00am for a structure on Poplar Street.

That structure is a warehouse shared by two business', one is R & R Resources and recycling company and the other is WIX a manufacturer of filters.

Firefighters had to evacuate the building after responding to the fire due to the flames becoming to intense.

Firefighters used ladder trucks to then battle the flames of the 3 alarm fire.

The fire started in the WIX side of the building and quickly grew.

The blaze has knocked down two walls of the business, however an employee with R & R says due to a fire wall their business has not been damaged.

There have been no reports of injuries at this time.

The Gastonia Fire Department said the cause of the fire is still not known.

As of Sunday fire crews were still on scene attending to hot spots.

The Gastonia fire department said they were able to save three of the four buildings on the site.
