HINESVILLE, GA (WTOC) -

A ceremony on Monday celebrated the volunteers of the Third Infantry Division.

More than 100 volunteers were awarded for their work at Fort Stewart. The awards are given to military spouses and other volunteers who work to make the community a better place and help families of soldiers.

The volunteers who were recognized say it's important to help out.

"It keeps you going - it keeps you driven, it also makes you want to motivate other women who are going through the same thing as you are right now. So during deployment phases, one of the things we want to do - especially at the Marne community club - is keep you going so you don't get into a rut," said Michelle Garnica, a volunteer at Fort Stewart.

"It gives me an opportunity to support our troops and their families in whatever way I can," Steve Hunnicutt, a volunteer at Fort Stewart. .

About 40 more volunteers will be recognized later this week at Hunter Army Airfield.
