Investigators with the Beaufort Co. Sheriff's Office have identified the suspect in the April 11 shooting on Shiney Rd. on St. Helena Island.

Ervin Smalls, II, 25, is wanted on charges of attempted murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime and unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Police have identified Smalls as the suspect who shot and injured a 40-year-old male victim outside a home on Shiney Rd. last week.

Witnesses say the victim was visiting with several individuals outside of the home on Shiney Rd. when Smalls suddenly approached and began shooting. The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the leg and fled the area. He returned to his Saxonville Rd. home and contacted law enforcement.

Police believe the shooting is in relation to an on-going dispute between the two men over money Smalls believed he was owed by the victim. The victim told police that he and Smalls had several confrontations over the matter, including a physical altercation that took place at Island Plaza two weeks prior to the shooting.

The victim sustained a non-life threatening injury as a result of the shooting and was treated and released from Beaufort Memorial.

According to police, Smalls last know address is 77 Coffin Point Rd. on St. Helena Island. Smalls is also known to frequent locations on Seaside Rd. He is a black male, approximately 6'02", 175 lbs with short hair. He has "Island Boy" with two palm trees tattooed on his right forearm and "Carol" tattooed on his neck. Smalls is armed and dangerous, according to police.
