Pilot Robert Poole of Granite Quarry was able to walk Wednesday after flipping his plane at the end of the runway at the Rowan County Airport.
Poole was flying a homemade experimental plane known as a Vans RV9A, according to Rowan County Emergency Services Chief Frank Thomason. Poole was attempting to land when he "bounced" the plane and it flipped over onto its top.
Poole had a scratch on the head, but was otherwise alright and refused treatment from Rowan County EMS.
The airport was closed to air traffic while the plane was moved and while a small fuel leak was cleaned up from the site.
Thomason said that there would be an investigation handled by the Highway Patrol, Salisbury Police Department, and Rowan Sheriff's Office.
