ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

The attacks at the Boston Marathon have Atlanta police on high alert, but they're also making some changes in anticipation of a busy weekend.

Thousands of people will be heading to Piedmont Park for the 77th Annual Atlanta Dogwood Festival while others will be heading to the Sweetwater 420 Fest and plenty of APD officers will be there to greet them.

The Atlanta Police Department will be beefing up manpower, keeping a close eye on city cameras, and using special K-9 units.

Organizers with the Dogwood Festival have said they will likely re-evaluate their security measures in advance of this year's festival.

Executive Director Brian Hill did not elaborate on specific plans, but said the recent bombings at the Boston Marathon prompted them to take a step back and look at their safety plans.

"It always makes you re-examine what you're doing on a public safety basis," said Hill. "We've always thought about those potentials. We have a very involved security and emergency plan in place. We're working very closely with city officials and state officials, to be aware of any changes or anything that might come up."
