BULLOCH CO., GA (WTOC) -

A Bulloch County Sheriff's Office sergeant has been arrested on sexual assault charges after an investigation.

Sgt. Michael Griffin was arrested April 16 on one count of sexual assault by persons with supervisory or disciplinary authority after an investigation by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

BCSO investigators were notified in early April 2013 of an allegation by female inmate at the Bulloch County jail about sexual contact between the inmate an a jail supervisor.

The contact allegedly occurred in 2009 but had not been reported. An internal affairs investigation was launched about supervisor Griffin. That investigation concluded that there was another reason to terminate Griffin and the case was referred to the GBI for more examination.

Griffin was assigned a $20,000 bond by a Bulloch County Superior Court judge.
