Clayton County officials arrest 10 in prostitution sting

CLAYTON COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

Ten people were arrested Thursday after Clayton County Police Department and Clayton County Sheriff's Office officials teamed up for a four-hour prostitution sting.

Undercover cops posed as decoys to lure potential customers along Tara Boulevard and other places.

Clayton County Police Officer Eddie Soto said the goal was to focus on areas with high crime in hopes that cracking down on people who solicit would help bring down other types of crime as well.

"Once they drop the decoy, normally you start getting solicitation pretty quick," Soto said. "What we're doing here is sending out this message: if you're going to commit a crime in Clayton County, you're going get caught. If you don't want to go to jail, don't come to Clayton County."

A man who had been arrested identified himself as Michael Shake.

"This is a travesty to justice. I tried to tell the young girl to get off the street – and I'm arrested now for, I guess, a prostitution sting?" Shake said. "I told her to get off the street, that this is Tara Boulevard; it's dangerous. Don't be walking up and down the street. You appear to me to be a prostitute."

Police told CBS Atlanta News that the man had offered to pay a decoy for sex.
