Congressional candidate makes trip to the Lowcountry

PORT ROYAL, SC (WTOC) -

Elizabeth Colbert-Busch made a campaign stop in the Lowcountry Saturday. She visited Port Royal's annual crab festival.

She is the democrat running against Mark Sanford for the vacant first congressional seat in South Carolina.  Our Jonathan Burton got a chance to speak to her about the campaign and what she has to say about rumors of her dodging debates and the media.

"I'm a tough candidate because I'm a 25 year business woman who understands how to negotiate, how to collaborate and reach across the table so that everyone comes out win win."

"We haven't back away from any debates or the media. AARP asked us to do a debate on April 17 and we couldn't do it because of scheduling conflicts. We agreed to April the 29th so I'm really looking forward to that."

Colbert-Busch and Sanford will face off in the general election on May 7th.
