Veterans group holds poker run for honor flights

Posted: Updated:

The local branch of the In Country Vietnam Vets Group held a poker run Saturday to raise money for a very special cause.

They are hoping to help send World War II veterans on an honor flight to Washington D.C. in the fall. The group has worked tirelessly to reach their goal of sending every remaining world war two veteran to see their monument in the capital, before they begin sending their own fellow Vietnam vets.

"Well, it keeps the memory alive of the sacrifices made by those people," said Henry Hugey.

"I'm 88 years old and I think of all of the young guys who never made it past 20 who are still there. Their sacrifices should not be in vain, keep this country free and to move forward with peace in the world if we can have it and the price is sometimes pretty high."

So far, honor flight has taken more than 200 veterans from this area to Washington D.C.
