Pembroke cuts ribbon on first-ever community art exhibit

PEMBROKE, GA (WTOC) -

Something special is taking place for Georgia Cities Week in Pembroke.

A ribbon cutting was held Sunday on the first-ever exhibit of paintings, photographs and drawings highlighting people, places and life in Pembroke. The art exhibit will be up for the next 2 weeks and the city mayor hopes this is just the beginning.

"I think it's important because it adds a different area for our community. We have not had a cultural arts center and maybe this is the beginning to that, where we can add some things along those lines for our citizens here in Pembroke." said Pembroke Mayor Mary Warnell.

The mayor says the city chose to open the temporary gallery as a new way to celebrate Georgia Cities Week.

"We said, well, instead of just the essay that we've had time after time after time, let's try something different. We said what if we had the children draw what they thought of or what they see when they go through Pembroke." added the Mayor.

The city put the gallery together from an idea to cut the ribbon in just two months.
