A stepdaughter is going to prison for a brutal home invasion against her stepmother on St. Helena Island.

Veronica Ruby Mack, the stepdaughter of one of the victims, and Robert Lee Lane were both in court Tuesday as two of the five people charged in the March 2012 attack.

Mack and Lane both pleaded guilty and are now sentenced to at least five years in prison.

Prosecutors say the stepdaughter planned and encouraged the home invasion, but stayed outside the home in a stolen van while four others charged the home and bound the victim and her son with duct tape. Once the son was bound, one of the attackers tried to cut off the tip of his big toe with a kitchen knife.

The three others charged in the attack were all sentenced earlier to 15 years in prison.
