CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

Police in Charlotte say a 2-year-old boy found wandering alone through a Charlotte intersection early Wednesday morning has been reunited with his parents.

The toddler was found at about 3:30 a.m. Wednesday near the corner of Tom Hunter Road and North Tryon. That's just outside the Hidden Valley neighborhood.

Police said the boy was wearing only a diaper and a pair of sneakers.

In a 911 call released by police on Wednesday afternoon, a woman said she saw the young boy walking across the street alone.

"We just stopped and got him," she told 911 operators.

A witness told WBTV that the toddler was shivering and calling out "mom"while crossing the street.

"I got my coat on him," she told 911. "He ain't got nothing but a diaper on him and somebody's big tennis shoes. That is crazy."

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said the toddler is OK. DSS was contacted to help the child.

WBTV has learned that the toddler was reunited with his parents by Wednesday afternoon.

A 16-year-old relative  was supposed to be taking care of the toddler, police say, and is charged with misdemeanor child neglect.
