SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - FBI agents with assistance from Savannah-Chatham Metro Police are searching for a gunman who robbed a south side bank.
Police said that just before noon Wednesday, the suspect walked into the Heritage Bank at 620 Stephenson Ave. carrying a long handgun and demanded money. The man then ran behind the bank and escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash, according to SCMPD.
The same bank was robbed last Thursday but Savannah-Chatham Metro Police are not saying if the two robberies are connected. Investigators say two males came through the woods and entered the bank, demanding cash. The suspects then ran off eastbound on Stephenson Ave.
On Wednesday, WTOC spoke with a woman who was interviewed by the FBI. She says she watched from her office window last Thursday as two men cut through the woods in the minutes before the bank was hit.
"I was working here at the desk and I noticed two gentleman who walked near my window. My daughter was here with me, and she also noticed that they had pink backpacks, which we thought was odd. She went to the window and watched them walk down into the ditch behind the bank," said Tina Groover, interviewed by the FBI.
Groover did not see anything during the robbery on Wednesday.
