Soldier accused of fatal shooting denied bond

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

An active duty soldier made his first appearance in court Wednesday in connection with the fatal shooting of a Savannah tire store owner.

Emanuel Perez, 31, is charged in the shooting death of 30-year-old Armando Montes, the owner of Brothers Tire Repair.

Montes was shot several times just after noon Tuesday outside his business on Hampstead Avenue and White Bluff Road. Police said the men got into a dispute before the shots were fired

Savannah-Chatham Metro Police said Perez turned himself in to military police on Tuesday.

Perez was not granted bond. His next court date is scheduled for 2 p.m. May 9.

He is being held at the Chatham County jail.
