Police: Wanted teen on run after cutting off monitoring bracelet

Police in Charlotte are searching for a teenager who is on the run after cutting off his electronic monitor on Wednesday on the city's northeast side.

According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police, Cristian Hernandez, 17, left his house during his court ordered curfew hours and cut off his electronic monitor.

He is wanted by the Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) on outstanding warrants for larceny of auto, possession of a stolen vehicle, and interfering with an electronic monitoring device. 

The teenager was released from jail on January 15, 2013. Hernandez was ordered to wear an electronic monitoring device as a condition of his release. 

Hernandez was last seen on Plaza Road Extension near Rocky River Road.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Hernandez should contact the Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) at (704)336-VCAT or call 911.

Hernandez is the tenth offender monitored by CMPD to cut a monitor off in 2013.

All of the offenders who previously cut their monitors off have been captured. CMPD is currently monitoring 402 offenders.
