SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

National Infant Immunization Week is underway in the Coastal Empire. On Thursday, it was a time to celebrate, not only the 20th anniversary of the Everybody Counts Immunization Coalition, but improvements in immunization numbers for children and adults in Chatham, Bryan and Effingham. A representative from the Georgia Immunization Program shared the report card with pediatricians, hospitals, daycares, schools and other community agencies that are focused on promoting immunizations.

"It provides feedback. Many people are trying different methods to reach children and adults. It gives us feedback on whether we are being successful and it motivates you when you see maybe what another county is doing or what the state of Georgia is doing and you are not quite there. It motivates us to work harder," said Marianna Pappas, Everybody Counts Immunization Coalition.

During the event, Dr. Michael DeMauro from Pediatric Associates took over as chairperson of the Everybody Counts Immunization Coalition. Pediatric Associates was recently awarded the Walt Orenstein Immunization Champions Award for their efforts in highlighting the importance or protecting infants from vaccine preventable disease.
