More than 100 Beaufort County middle and elementary school students participated in Aviation and STEM Day at Battery Creek High School Thursday.
Students were shown a number of different jobs in aviation. They also got to watch a AH-1 Cobra attack helicopter land right in front of them.
Students were given the opportunity to go through real live ROTC training with folks in Battery Creek's Junior ROTC program.
Some students say they walked away from this with a fresh desire to pursue engineering careers.
"It was really cool seeing how helicopters work," said Dallin Morgan, a student at Shanklin Elementary. "I'm really looking forward to becoming an engineer."
"It's cool. I want to get in it and fly it," said Justin Smalls, an elementary school student.
This is the second year for Battery Creek's aviation program, which provides students at the school with the opportunity to gain hands on experience with helicopters.
