A fifth-grader with the willingness to be successful is the Character Counts Student of the Month.
On Friday, Vanessa Lopez was awarded the title after being nominated by the school counselor Nicole Purdy. Vanessa goes to Pulaski Elementary and has never missed a day of school or been tardy.
She is on the High Honor Roll and works with peers to resolve problems. Purdy said she has made a great impression on the teachers, staff, and more importantly, her peers.
"I was shocked. I never thought I would be an award winner. There are so many kids in this school that could also be a winner, so I was surprised," Vanessa said.
Vanessa's mom was also there to see her receive the award. Her father is currently serving in Afghanistan.
