SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -
852 squares of sidewalk at Forsyth Park to be turned into art at the 32nd annual Sidewalk Arts Festival.
For the 10th straight year, Gray's Reef National Marine Sanctuary is proud to partner with the Savannah College of Art and Design to recognize the best ocean-themed entry. The winner of this year's Gray's Reef Award will recieve a $350 award and the winning entry will grace t-shirts and posters at this year's Gray's Reef Ocean Film Festival in September.
Hundreds of artists take part in transforming squares of pavement into multi-colored, ephemeral canvases. Thousands more people, including tourists and Savannah residents, throng into the park to watch the event take place.
"We are excited about the opportunity to once again partner with a leading international art college to recognize great ocean-themed art and raise awareness of the underwater treasure located just off the Georgia coast," said Gray's Reef Superintendent George Sedberry.
Gray's Reef has offered prizes to the creators of ocean-themed entries at the festival since 2004.
