Dip at gas pumps may soon end, expert says

GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

After a few weeks of diminishing gas prices in Greenville, a GasBuddy.com expert says lower prices may be temporarily over.

According to the gas price tracking website, prices in Greenville fell 2.6 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.12 per gallon on Sunday.

The prices are nearly 20 cents cheaper than last month and nearly 40 cents cheaper than year - but not for long, according to GasBuddy.com Senior Petroleum Analyst Patrick DeHaan.

"The party at the pump with the seasonally lower prices may be temporarily over," said DeHaan. "We've seen situations unfold that have caused a reversal in the downward trend, and those situations are multiplying across portions of the U.S. and Canada."

Refineries are finishing up an extensive maintenance season and problems may develop, putting pressure on prices, DeHaan said.

The national average fell 1.6 cents per gallon in the last week to $3.49.
