With so much focus on immigration in our country, it's often easy to forget just how difficult the naturalization process can be.
"People who have this, they don't know what it is," said one person who gained permanent U.S. residency.
On Tuesday night on THE news, meet a group of immigrants who made the journey to America, became citizens and are following the American dream.
In a ceremony at the Fort Frederica National Monument, 21 men and women from 13 different countries chose a new beginning.
They were naturalized as U.S. citizens in a ceremony.
"People who have this; they don't know what it is," said Chibeuze "Sonny" Onunka who left Nigeria nine years ago and gained permanent residency.
The American heritage, the success of its citizens and freedom afforded to them is what Chibeuze "Sonny" Onunka seeks.
Hear the stories of Onunka and others on their path to citizenship. Watch Brandi Cummings' special report "In Pursuit of the American Dream" at 5:30 p.m., 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. Tuesday.
