SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

A 70-year-old Savannah woman is in serious but stable condition after her car struck two trees at Abercorn St. and East 48th St. in Ardsley Park Monday.

Ruth A. Vanderhorst, of an Inglesby Ct. address, was transported to Memorial University Medical Center after the 5 p.m. wreck.

According to authorities, Vanderhorst was driving a silver 2011 Toyota Corolla northbound in the right lane of Abercorn when she drifted to the right side of the road. The car struck the bottom of an oak tree and then crashed head-on into another tree.

Savannah Fire had to extricate Vanderhorst from the wreckage.

Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department's Major Accident Investigation Team is continuing to investigate.

Northbound lanes of Abercorn St. were closed to traffic at 48th St. for a few hours Monday while crews cleaned up the wreck.
