Georgia's First Lady Sandra Deal traveled to south Georgia to read to kindergarten and pre-k students as part of a focus on literacy.
Mrs. Deal visited schools in Wayne, Pierce, Charlton, and Bacon Counties Monday to read to students and get them interested in reading.
"We know we've got to get them excited about reading at this age," said Deal, a retired teacher. "We've got to get that interest before third grade so they are reading because that's when they must start reading for information and everything else is built on that."
The visits are part of campaign during March and April to visit as many schools as possible statewide.
