SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Rep. Jack Kingston has a busy week ahead, as he announced several upcoming events that suggest he may be launching a bid for the U.S. Senate.

Kingston plans to hold two press conferences on Thursday, one in Savannah and one in Brunswick. This all comes after months of speculation over his plans to fill the soon-to-be vacant Senate seat after Saxby Chambliss retires. WTOC has also learned a kickoff reception fundraiser will be held for Kingston at the Mulberry Inn on Friday in Savannah. It's not clear what the money being raised will go towards, but Kingston gave a subtle hint at what's to come while speaking to the Association of County Commissioners of Georgia on Monday.

"We're looking at the Senate race. We're making a lot of phone calls, doing a lot of visiting around the state. We have raised a lot of money. We had a good quarter, and we're getting a good team together, and we'll think that we'll probably have some decision very soon."

Another sign pointing to Kingston's Senate campaign comes from a political consultant by the name of Dave Simons. He told the Associated Press that state Senator Buddy Carter plans to announce his congressional race on Monday.
