Beaufort Co. prepares for possible Candice Glover parade

Posted: Updated:

As Beaufort County native Candice Glover inches closer to making it to the top three on American Idol, folks in the lowcountry are prepping for the possibility of her coming back for the hometown hero parade this weekend.

Even though folks won't know if Glover will actually be in Beaufort until after Thursday nights result show, the entire community has gone straight to work.

According to the Beaufort County Chamber of Commerce, everyone is stepping up to help organize this hometown hero parade including city and county officials, police officers, the sheriff's office, and her fans.

"Just to making sure of course that we have enough police officers on the streets, that security is enough for the big crowd we're expecting," said Jaime Dailey-Vergara, communications director for the Beaufort County Chamber.

The parade is being co-sponsored by the organizers of the Taste of Beaufort and the Beaufort Water Festival.

The chamber expects more than 50,000 people to attend a parade and concert in Waterfront Park. City council is holding a special meeting Tuesday night to discuss street closures for the parade.

According to the chamber, Idol isn't paying for the entire event. The rest of the cost falls on the county, which is why they're asking the public to donate if they can.

Those who are interested in donating can contact Citizens Bank. There is a Candice Glover fund set up there. For more information, call the Beaufort County Chamber of Commerce at 843.525.8500.
