1 robbery suspect arrested, 1 at large after chase

EFFINGHAM CO., GA (WTOC) -

A Garden City man was arrested after an armed robbery on Hester Road.

Effingham County sheriff's deputies received a call from a victim saying he was robbed on Hester Road by two men and was following the suspect vehicle. 

At about 6:30 p.m., deputies made contact with the suspect vehicle and chased the vehicle on Bluejay Road to Herbert Kessler Road. The driver crashed into a small pond. Two black males got out of the car and ran, according to the Effingham Co. Sheriff's Office. 

Deputies performed a search of the area with assistance from a local K9 team and a suspect was found. Leon Clemmons Jr., 19, of Garden City, was arrested and charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

Deputies received information that the other suspect was spotted at about noon on March 1 on Hodgeville Road. Another search was conducted by ECSO, Garden City K9, Savannah-Chatham Metro Police helicopter and the suspect was not found.

Witnesses said the suspect was picked up by a woman driving a silver car on Hodgeville Road, according to the sheriff's office. The suspect appeared to be in his early 20s. He was last seen wearing a white tank top, jeans and was barefoot. He goes by the street name Zulu.
