Police: Man stabbed roommate in the eye

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (WTOC) -

Beaufort County Sheriff's Office is investigating a stabbing that took place at a South end apartment early Thursday morning.

Just after 4 a.m., sheriff's deputies responded to Brighton Bay unit #721 in reference to a stabbing that had just occurred. During the course of the ensuing investigation, authorities learned that a male victim had been stabbed in the eye as a result of an argument with his roommate.

Clinton Beau Kitty, 32, and his roommate, Samuel Lloyd Lebair, 30, had allegedly been drinking throughout the night at their apartment. At some point, the roommates began to argue and a physical confrontation ensued. The two men separated and Lebair went to bed. However, the pair continued to exchange words via Facebook. Kitty eventually went to Lebair's bedroom and the two men began fighting again.

As Kitty was assaulting Lebair, Lebair grabbed a pocket knife from his bedside and stabbed Kitty in the eye. After the stabbing, Lebair ran to a neighbor's apartment to call 911. Kitty's girlfriend ended up transporting him to the hospital for treatment.

Kitty was taken to Hilton Head Medical Center and eventually transferred to Savannah Memorial, where he remains. The injury Kitty sustained is considered serious by not life-threatening.

No arrested have been made at this time and the investigation remains active.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers at 1.888.CRIME.SC or text the word TIPSC with a message to CRIMES (274637).

Memorial Day weekend is in full effect, which means that law enforcement is out in full force. The Department of Natural Resources is also stressing safety throughout the weekend.  Officers say that they'll be cracking down on the usual charges, such as those not wearing seatbelts, or drinking and driving.
