The occasional good shot is what keeps golfers coming back for more and helping create those shots has Charlie Dobbertin back for more.

The popular Savannah golf professional has returned to the golf business after a few years' absence, looking to fill what he says is a gap in the Savannah golf community.

Gallea Golf, of Rochester, NY, has acquired the management contracts at two local courses, Crosswinds and Henderson, and has hired Dobbertin to be the director of instruction at both. The new position has returned him to his place on the teaching tee and to his passion.

"The enjoyment of being outdoors is big for me and the enjoyment of seeing somebody improve,'' said Dobbertin, who has worked at several clubs in Savannah as a head professional and assistant professional. "I get a lot of satisfaction out of seeing that and I really like working with the kids. That's the future of golf.''

In addition to private instruction, the Gallea academies will soon expand to offer group lessons, couples classes and junior camps.

"Chris and Leslie Gallea saw the opening in the Savannah area to have an actual golf school on a daily basis, have a teaching pro like myself out there on the tee giving instruction,'' said Dobbertin. "It's something, that we're going to build up, I don't want to say baby steps because it's already off and running. So we're just going to go from there and make it bigger and better.''
