Savannah florist continues cancer fundraiser through Mother's Day sales

Posted: Updated:

The events may be over, but the giving isn't finished yet for many local charities, including Komen for the Cure and the National MS Society Georgia Chapter.

The Komen Race for the Cure was in April, but John Davis Florist in Savannah is keeping the Komen fundraising alive with a Mother's Day Containers for Cancer program. The flower shop will donate $1 for every empty container or vase dropped off at their Abercorn St. store now through Mother's Day.

Plus, for every Mother's Day flower order, Davis says he will make a $5 donation on behalf of the Containers for Cancer program.

"We just want to give back to Komen. So many people have been affected by cancer and it's the thing to do," Davis told WTOC. "We're already getting orders. Five dollars from every order goes to Komen."

Davis isn't done yet.

Two weeks ago, the MS Walk Savannah drew more than 500 people to Daffin Park, raising more than $35,000 and counting. Team WTOC raised more than $15,000, and we're not done yet either. Our ongoing "My MS Savannah" campaign continues through July 1.

Wednesday, John Davis Florist became the latest business to donate to the My MS Savannah campaign, joining more than 80 other local businesses and community members who have donated and supported MS research and funding for Southeast Georgia MS patients and their needs.

We have until July 1 to hit our new goal of $30,000.

Any business who donates $100 or more between now and June 1 will also get their logo on the back of the newly announced Tybee MS Floatilla t-shirt. The bigger the donation, the bigger the logo! The "We Float For MS" Floatilla will be held on June 10 at 3:30 p.m. with launch from the Crab Shack, another supporter of My MS Savannah. Plus, Friday night at 8 p.m., the Savannah Comedy Revue at the Bay Street Theatre at Club 1 Jefferson Street will be donating a portion of their sales to the My MS Savannah campaign. Their featured comedian is Eric Hunter, who's been seen on Last Comic Standing, late night talk shows and heard on the Bob and Tom Show. For more information, go to
