Swainsboro teen charged with aggravated battery

STATESBORO, GA (WTOC) -

At 11:28 p.m. Thursday, patrol deputies with the Bulloch County Sheriff's Office responded to a residence in the 2000 block of Old Register Rd. for an assault.

When deputies arrived, they located an 18-year-old victim suffering from significant blunt force injuries to the face. The victim was transported by EMS to East Georgia Regional Medical Center. He was later transferred to Memorial in Savannah for follow up care.

Witnesses at the scene told authorities that Zach McBroom, 19, of Swainsboro, entered the victim's home and physically assaulted the victim before fleeing the scene.

Deputies located McBroom on Georgia Ave. in Statesboro and took him in to custody. McBroom has been charged with one county of aggravated battery and one county of underage possession of alcohol. He is being held at the Bulloch County Jail.
