Goose Creek shooting victim still in ICU

GOOSE CREEK, SC (WCSC) -

The man police say was shot three times in the Boulder Bluff subdivision of Goose Creek last weekend remained in intensive care Monday.

According to family members, the 31-year-old victim was still in the Intensive Care Unit at the Medical University of South Carolina receiving treatment for gunshot wounds to his forearm, stomach, and near his eye.

Lieutenant Karen Nix with the Goose Creek Police Department said the man was shot three times at 417 Madeline Drive, of North Goose Creek Boulevard near Boulder Bluff Elementary School, around 4 a.m. Sunday.

When police arrived at the scene, a 34-year-old woman told them two unknown males had followed them to the home and attempted to rob them.

The woman said she and the victim were returning home from North Charleston and stopped at the Circle K on Stephanie Drive for some groceries. The woman said she returned to the vehicle to continue to Madeline Drive, but noticed a burgundy-colored car follow them out of the parking lot.

As they arrived at the home, the car pulled up alongside their vehicle and a passenger jumped out, pulled out a gun and demanded money. The woman said she gave the suspect her cell phone, but both victims told the suspect they did not have any money.

At that time, the woman said the suspect made them get out of the car, before saying "please, I don't want to shoot you." The woman said the suspect again asked for money, and she told him she did not have any. The suspect then began checking the man's pockets for money, saying "man, I should just shoot you," according to the woman.

The woman said the man then attempted to fight off the gunman, so she ran around to the back door of the home to try to gain entry, but it was locked and no one answered the door. She said she then ran to a ditch behind the home and followed it until she reached Amy Drive. She said she heard two shots fired as she ran off.

Officers arrived shortly after and found the male victim conscious at the home, suffering from gunshot wounds.

Neighbors told police they heard three shots fired and one neighbor said he saw a burgundy-colored car with a loud exhaust muffler driving down the road without lights on.  That neighbor said he thought the vehicle may have been a Ford Mustang.

Police noted in their report that while the woman originally said she was sitting in the passenger seat of the male victim's car at the time of the robbery, she later said she was actually driving.

The woman described the suspect as a black male with a mustache, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt.

On Monday, police returned to the scene for another round of interviews with neighbors.  The investigation is still active.
