Gov. Deal to visit Savannah

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Georgia Governor Nathan Deal will be visiting Savannah Wednesday. 

The Governor will be in town to help celebrate the 75th anniversary of Georgia Southern University's Herty Advanced Materials Development Center. 

Gov. Deal visited Statesboro to sign into law the partnership between GSU and the Herty Research Center. 

The Herty Center studies timber and tree pulp to find new uses for companies worldwide. 

The anniversary event will begin at 11 a.m. at the Herty Advanced Materials Development Center, 110 Brampton Road in Savannah.

    A man accused of shooting of an Army captain in downtown Savannah in 2004 has received a guilty verdict from a jury.  A jury found Deon Jones guilty on of the felony murder of U.S. Army Captain Scott Corwin during a robbery near Monterey Square in 2004.
