A DeRenne Middle School student remains in custody after attacking a fellow student with a knife.
The 13-year-old suspect made an appearance in juvenile court Wednesday for a detention hearing.
Investigators say the suspect stabbed another 13-year-old girl student in the head, shoulder and right arm with a kitchen knife. The two teens are said to have had trouble in the past.
Police said there was an exchange between the students through social media over the weekend and that this was a case of bullying.
The student has been charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon on school property and disrupting public school.
The suspect will remain behind bars until her next appearance, which will be a juvenile arraignment hearing. The next hearing is set for 9 a.m. May 13.
