SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

A man is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday in the Recorders Court of Chatham County.

One man is in custody after stealing a package from a post office containing a large amount of marijuana.

Savannah-Chatham Metro Police officers responded early Tuesday morning to a theft report of a package at the U.S. Post Office on Victory Drive.

A postal worker told police that a man tried to claim the package and refused to turn it over when the name didn't match the name on the package. The man then quickly grabbed the package and ran, according to the Chatham-Savannah Counter Narcotics Team.

Police canvassed the area and found the discarded package behind a nearby business. They found the suspect, 23-year-old Cameron Nightingale a short time later, according to the CNT.

SCMPD K9 and the CNT responded and determined the package likely contained a controlled substance.

CNT Agents opened the package, which contained more than 2 pounds of marijuana.

Nightingale was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. He is being held at the Chatham County Detention Center.

The investigation continues. More charges may follow.
