Vandalism Ruining Public Park

Port Royal officials were forced to temporarily shut down an area skate park once again because of ongoing vandalism. This is the third time the park has closed due to vandalism since in opened a few years ago. This time, someone kicked out the railing and plywood on the ramps and wrote graffiti throughout the facility.

Town officials say this is ruining the park. "It's a liability issue," said town manager Van Willis. "If it keeps getting damaged, eventually someone is going to get hurt when that happens, the Town of Port Royal is on the hook. And I can't let that happen."

Officials are hoping the skate park will reopen by Saturday. They are looking at possibly putting a fence around the facility. Or they might begin to charge an entry fee to the park.
