BEAUFORT, SC (WTOC) -

Five men have been arrested and charged in connection with shoplifting at Walmart.

Beaufort police responded just before noon to the Walmart at 330 Robert Smalls Parkway on a report of several shoplifting suspects there.

Officers spotted five men in the parking lot. During the investigation, they saw four suspicious objects - cylinders about a foot long wrapped in duct and electrical tape with protruding wires – in the suspects' vehicle, according to police.

Officers called the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office bomb squad and set up a perimeter.

The bomb squad inspected the items and determined that they posed no danger, according to police. The area was reopened to traffic.

Devon Griffin, 20; Anthony Singletary Jr., 31; Rashad Delaney, 23; Michael Brown, 33, and William Ferguson, 45, were arrested and charged in connection with the store thefts.

The objects were detonated. The case remains under investigation.
