Stamping out hunger by donating food through the mail

Posted: Updated:

Did you see any bags of food sitting next to mail boxes Saturday?

The National Association of Letter Carriers' took part in the Stamp Out Hunger! food drive Saturday.

Earlier this week letter carriers left plastic bags in mailboxes all across the country asking for non perishable donations. Local donations are headed to America's Second Harvest Food Bank of Coastal Georgia.

A team of volunteers from the local Bank of America helped sort the donated items.

"Yeah, it's incredibly inspiring to see teams come out and spend so much time in the community. Savannah is obviously a key community for us, we've been based here for more than 100 years and it's just a neat thing to be able to show that and give back to community." said Mike Rettaliata, Area Exec. for GA Bank of America.

If you missed your chance to leave some food by your mailbox, the post office will also be collecting food on Monday.
