Now that school is back in session, safety officials say everyone needs to pay extra close attention when driving in school zones and around school buses. More >>
A little before 7am yesterday, 13-year-old Trevor Daniels was running to catch his school bus on Liberty Parkway when he ran into the path of an oncoming pickup truck. Trevor has received a blood transfusion and doctors have put him in a medically induced coma.
Daniels' family says he has some swelling of the brain along with some minor hemorrhaging. Doctors have also put a monitor in his head, and his family says the swelling keeps fluctuating.
Now Laidlaw officials are begging drivers to be more careful when they are driving near a school bus, or even a bus stop.
"We need to remind the public when they see those yellow arms and the flashing lights, be prepared to stop for those buses," said the company's Rufus Smith. "That's what those signals are telling them."
Trevor is now at Memorial Health where he remains in serious condition.
