Posted: Updated:

An airman and his family have been displaced after a fire caused major damage to their home Monday.

It happened at about 5 p.m. Monday at a home on Worth Street in Savannah.

The homeowner, a Senior Master Sergeant with the United States Air Force, and his two young sons, ages 4 and 5, were at home along with his father-in-law when the fire started outside the kitchen door.

The airman jumped into action and got everybody out without injury. His wife and teenage daughter were not home at the time.

The American Red Cross is assisting the family with their immediate needs.

The homeowner stated in a new release, "Me and my family are grateful to the Red Cross for being here for us. They provided for my family when we needed it most."

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Savannah Fire told WTOC that it does not appear to be suspicious.
