Valdosta man stabs, tazes mother

A Valdosta woman is in the hospital tonight after police say her son stabbed and tazed her early this morning.

The woman was able to run to a neighbor's house to get help.

Police found her son and arrested him a short time later.

Just days after Mother's Day a Valdosta woman is recovering in the hospital after police say her son, 26-year-old Dexter Harding, stabbed and tazed her.

"I heard the footsteps running and I thought somebody was in the backyard running and I heard all this screaming, 'help me help me,'" said neighbor Angela Carter.

58-year-old Diane Harding ran next door to her neighbors house, banged on their door, and screamed for them to let her in, that's when they helped her call police.

Harding is expected to survive. But Carter says what she witnessed this morning was horrible.

"My boyfriend opened the door and there was a lady outside, and she was like 'pull me in, pull me in, he's going to come get me.' And I'm like, 'he isn't going to come get you.' And she said her son had stabbed her in the back and tazed her, and beat her. And we see him leaving the house running down the road," said Carter.

Police say the attack stemmed from an argument the two had this morning.

"She related to officers that her son was the person that attacked her, she was able to give a description of him. He was located a very short time later just a few blocks away," said Captain Bobbi McGraw, Valdosta Police Department.

Carter says the mother and son recently moved into the Bethune Street home. And she hopes she gets a chance to meet her neighbor soon. "I hope she's okay, because she seemed like a good woman."

Harding is charged with aggravated assault and police say more charges could be coming.

He remains in the Lowndes County Jail.
