Oglethorpe Mall hosted the second annual Chess Fest Friday. Over 200 students from several schools came together to play chess. Organizers wanted to show each child that plenty of others love the game and plenty of people stand ready to support their interest.
"The most beautiful part is that it is just so simple in a way. Everybody just comes and we support our students. We are all here for the same thing, to just step back and let our students play the game," said Jamie McGrath, gifted services at Gould Elementary.
The event is the grand finale for the chess players who have been playing in their own chess clubs at their schools since the start of the school year.
