Brandon Mackey, 26, is behind bars in Fort Worth, charged with the June murder of Isle of Hope firefighter Wesley Franklin.

Police say it was a robbery gone wrong.

Mackey is expected to be extradited next week.

Mackey also is charged with forgery and theft stemming from a September theft at the Rent-A-Center where he worked as an assistant manager. According to a police report, he stole more than $1,000 from the store – located about three miles from the Deb's Pub and Grub, where Franklin was shot to death.

Mackey was arrested Thursday night. During a Friday news conference, Franklin's family tearfully thanked detectives, who promised they'd find the killer.

"They promise me all the time," Metro Police Chief Willie Lovett said. "You know, I might go up (to detectives' offices) and say a few words, and they'll promise me they're gonna get it. But that doesn't necessarily happen. But when they make a promise to the public, I'm sure that they believe in their hearts that that promise will be fulfilled."
