CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

A Gaston County man and his son are recovering after police say they were both shot and injured while fighting one another over a handgun.

According to Mount Holly Police, officers were called to a home along the 100-block of Sella Ridge Drive around 8:40 p.m. on Saturday night.

When officers arrived, they found a man, later identified as 58-year-old Eugene Pittman, and his son, 21-year-old Andrew Pittman, both suffering from gunshot wounds. Eugene had a wound to his torso, Andrew had a wounded leg.

Officers say the two men were arguing over a handgun when it discharged.

Both father and son were transported to Carolinas Medical Center-Main, in Charlotte, and are expected to be okay.

WBTV has learned the case will be presented to the Gaston County District Attorney's Office to determine if any charges will be filed.
