BEAUFORT CO., SC (WTOC) -

One of Beaufort County's finest has been selected as the 2013 Officer of the Year.

Officer Sean Alford, of the Beaufort County Police Department, is the recipient of the 2013 Jesse L. Altman law Enforcement Officer of the Year Award sponsored by the Rotary Club of Beaufort.

This award has been given annually to a deserving officer since 1973 and is named after Colonel Jesse L. Altman, former Beaufort Chief of Police. It is open to all agencies that serve in Beaufort County.

Officer Alford, during the past year, has been assigned to the Beaufort County Police Department's Community Response Team (CRT) where he is able to respond to specific needs in different communities without taking other officers from priority responsibilities.

Due to staffing issues, Alford has been the sole member of the Community Response Team this past year, which is designed for three officers.

Alford also assists patrol when shorthanded or on crucial cases.
