3 diagnosed with hepatitis B after treatment at N. Charleston clinic

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental control has ordered a North Charleston clinic to cease and desist all invasive procedures after three people contracted hepatitis B after receiving injections there.

According to DHEC, the three patients recently diagnosed with hepatitis B are believed to have caught the virus while receiving spinal injections with common medications on Feb. 7 and Feb. 21. at the Tri-County Spinal Care Center.

The clinic is located at 8626 Dorchester Road.

DHEC said the other 23 patients who received injections at the clinic on those dates were warned via telephone on Monday night.  Those patients are being asked to go to the Northwoods Health Clinic to have their blood tested for hepatitis B, hepatitis C, and HIV.

Tri-County Spinal Care Center will be required to provide DHEC with:access to the building, clinic records and employees, and patient information as requested.
