Bluffton police officer reaches settlement with town

A Bluffton police officer has reached a settlement after claiming he was unfairly suspended, demoted and forced to take a pay cut in retaliation for complaints against the former police chief.

The Island Packet reports that under the settlement agreement, Christian Gonzales will get backpay and be reinstated to his former rank as a senior sergeant  - now referred to as a master police sergeant.

Gonzales sued the town, former Police Chief David McAllister and Town Manager Anthony Barrett in March 2012, alleging he was punished for filing complaints about his former boss.
