Driver Charged, Passenger in Serious Condition

A driver involved in an accident that tied up traffic on the Truman Parkway for hours Saturday night has been arrested and charged with driving under the influence. Savannah-Chatham police arrested 35-year-old Marc Anthony Coar after he was released from Memorial Health Sunday morning.

Coar was driving north on the Truman Parkway shortly after 7pm Saturday when he lost control of the car between the Wheaton Street and President Street exits. The car slammed into the concrete divider wall, sending his passenger, 36-year-old William Shopey, flying out.

Shopey was last listed in serious condition at the hospital.

Police say more charges may be filed against the driver.
